1. Is a plan necessary for my kitchen renovation project?
A well-executed plan is crucial in ensuring that you avoid forgetting anything in your new kitchen design. A clear floor plan can also make it easier for contractors to give you an accurate estimate. By eliminating surprises and unwanted expenses, a good plan can save you money and time.
- What is the kitchen work triangle and why is it important?
The kitchen work triangle is a practical way to move between the stove, sink, and refrigerator with minimal obstruction. It is recommended to be located away from heavy traffic in the kitchen. The work triangle may not be possible in all kitchens but working as close as possible to it is recommended.
- What are the differences between MDF and wood doors for kitchen cabinets?
MDF, or Medium Density Fiberboard, is a stronger and denser engineered wood product than particleboard. It is suitable for painted doors and comes in two types, a five-piece or a one-piece door construction. Wood doors are made from various types of wood and have joints where the rails and stiles meet. They are generally better for stained finishes. MDF doors are generally recommended for painted finishes because they do not crack at the joints.
- What are custom cabinets and stock cabinets, and which is right for me?
Stock cabinets have predefined measurements and are prefabricated. Custom cabinets are more flexible and can be fabricated to meet any dimension that a kitchen design requires. A custom kitchen company can modify cabinet dimensions to fit the exact space in your kitchen. The ability to customize also gives you endless options for materials, finishes, colors, and cabinet styles.
- How much should I expect to pay for kitchen cabinetry?
The cost of kitchen cabinetry can vary and is based on the type of doors, drawers, and materials used. More drawers mean higher costs as they are pricier than cabinets with just doors. Especially if they are made of high-quality materials like wood with dovetail joints and full extension soft close. Additional features like pullout mechanisms and recycling centers can also increase the cost. To see how we can help reduce costs, speak with one of our designers today.
- What information do I need to provide to get a quote for my kitchen renovation?
To get an accurate quote, you will need to provide rough measurements of your existing kitchen. The measurements taken should be from wall to wall including the height from floor to ceiling. Indicate if you have any desire to change the existing layout or move plumbing or electrical. You also need to provide a list of your preferred materials and finishes, and the types of appliances you choose. To help the designer better understand your kitchen’s layout, it’s useful to provide a few photographs of your existing kitchen.
- What factors should I consider when choosing kitchen cabinets?
When choosing kitchen cabinets, consider style, color, material, construction quality, and cost. The cabinet style should complement the overall design aesthetic of your home. The color should either match or complement the color scheme of your kitchen. Consider cabinets built with high-quality materials and strong construction to ensure cabinet durability and longevity. Finally, the overall cost should be within your budget while still meeting your desired style and quality requirements. Consult with one of our designers who can help you make the best decisions for your kitchen cabinets.
- How long does a typical kitchen renovation take, from start to finish?
The timeline for a kitchen renovation can vary greatly depending on the complexity of the project and the scope of work. Once ordered, kitchen cabinets take between 6-8 weeks to arrive. The start date of the demolition is usually coordinated with the arrival dates of the cabinets. Generally, a complete kitchen renovation takes between 4-8 weeks from the day the demolition starts.
- What tips can you offer to help me stay within my budget during my kitchen renovation?
Set a budget and stick to it. Prioritize your expenses and focus on the most important items. Keep the existing layout to avoid additional plumbing and electrical costs. Work with a professional designer to create a plan that meets your budget and design goals. Communicate your budget clearly to the designer or contractor. Finally, avoid making changes mid-project, as they can increase costs.
- Is there a warranty included with the cabinets?
At Design Excellence Kitchen & Bath, our cabinetry comes with a 5-year manufacturer’s warranty that covers any defects.
